Located in western Uganda, just 348 km from Kampala and 26 km from Fort Portal, Kibale National Park is renowned as Africa’s top destination for chimpanzee tracking. This lush rainforest spans over 795 km² and is home to 13 primate species, making it one of the richest ecosystems in East Africa.
The park’s towering evergreen trees — some rising over 55 meters — form a dense canopy that provides an ideal habitat for wildlife, particularly chimpanzees. Tracking these intelligent primates through the forest is an unforgettable experience, as you observe their behavior in the wild under the guidance of expert rangers.
In addition to chimpanzees, Kibale is also home to:
Red colobus monkeys
Black-and-white colobus
Olive baboons
Red-tailed monkeys
Potto
Over 325 bird species, including the African pitta, yellow-spotted nicator, black-capped apalis, and blue-headed sunbird.
Kibale is adjacent to other notable parks, including Queen Elizabeth National Park, the Rwenzori Mountains, and Semuliki National Park, making it an ideal stop on a broader western Uganda safari circuit.
