3-Day Chimpanzee Trekking & Cultural Safari
This 3-day safari takes you deep into the heart of western Uganda to Kibale Forest National Park, home to one of the largest populations of chimpanzees in Africa. Experience a rare encounter with our closest relatives in the animal kingdom and enjoy scenic landscapes, vibrant cultural heritage, and immersive nature walks through lush swamps and crater lakes.
The drive through Uganda’s green countryside and expansive tea plantations sets the tone for an unforgettable wildlife and cultural experience.
After an early breakfast, your journey begins with a scenic drive westwards via the Mityana-Mubende-Fort Portal route. Enjoy the rolling hills and tea plantations along the way. Stop in Fort Portal town for lunch before continuing to Kibale Forest via the Fort Portal–Kamwenge Road.
Upon arrival, enjoy a guided nature walk through the picturesque Crater Lake region, where you'll witness serene volcanic landscapes. Dinner and overnight stay at your selected lodge.
After breakfast, head to the Kanyanchu Visitor Centre for a briefing before starting your chimpanzee tracking experience in Kibale Forest. With a ranger guide, trek through dense jungle in search of these intelligent primates. Tracking can take 2–4 hours, and once located, you'll observe their behavior for up to one hour. This activity is available only to participants aged 18 and above.
In addition to chimpanzees, the forest is home to other primates such as grey-cheeked mangabeys, baboons, and vervet monkeys.
Return to your lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a guided walk. The swamp is a haven for birdlife, monkeys, and unique plants, and the guides provide insights into the area's ecology and community projects.
Enjoy breakfast, then visit the Toro Kingdom Royal Palace, perched on a hilltop offering panoramic views of Fort Portal town and the Rwenzori Mountains. Learn about the cultural heritage of the Batooro people before starting your return journey to Kampala via Mubende.
En route, stop for lunch and arrive in Kampala in the evening. You will be dropped off at your hotel or the airport for your onward flight.
